Los Angeles is a big and widespread city on the West Coast of the USA. It’s the biggest city in the state of California and the biggest but one in the USA. The city’s name is often abbreviated to L.A. and is also named The City of Angels.
Things to see
There’s a lot of film industry: Beverly Hills, Hollywood with its Hollywood Walk of Fame and Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. The real media industry is widely spread over the four districts bordering Los Angeles: Burbank (NBC, Warner Bros., Disney), Century City (20th Century Fox, MGM), Universal City (Universal Studios, NBC Universal) and Culver City (Sony Pictures Entertainment). Also the beaches of Santa Monica, Malibu, Venice and Huntington Beach are popular.
The original Disneyland is in Anaheim, South of Los Angeles.
In the centre of Los Angeles you can find Griffith Park. There’s the Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum, a museum about the life in the West of the USA. It’s an aggregation of the Southwest Museum of the American Indian, the Museum of the American West and the Women of the West Museum.
Museums and galleries
Los Angeles has a big amount big and important museums with a lot of art museums.
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art was founded in 1910 and has a collection of more than 100000 pieces of art. An other important museum of art is the Hammer Museum, which shows impressionist and postimpressionist art and work of Rembrandt and Titiaan. The Museum of Contemporary Art shows contemporary art. Furthermore you have the Getty Center, the Craft and Folk Art Museum and the California African American Museum.
One of the most famous American sculpture gardens is the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden on the campus of the UCLA.
