Palermo, Sicily, Italy

Palermo is the capital of the autonomous region Sicily, on the equally named island South of the boot of Italy.  The city is in the North West of the island, on the Tyrrhenian Sea and so also in the Mediterranean.  The equally named province, where Palermo is the capital from, lies between the provinces Trapani and Messina.

Palermo is a university city. It has a football/soccer club (US Citta di Palermo). There’s an airport at 30 km from the city: “Falcone e Borsellino” (named after two worldfamous judges, killed by the maffia in the early 90s).  You can reach the other parts of the island by train.  Furthermore the city has an important harbour from which you can reach a wide range of destinations.
